SAP thanks Leonardia Coke ban
support at BacoLaodiat Festival

The Sugar Alliance of the Philippines yesterday thanked Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia for supporting the sugar industry stakeholders' call to ban Coca-Cola products at the BacoLaodiat Festival in Bacolod City, set February 15 to 18.

“The Sugar Alliance would like to thank Mayor Bing for his unwavering support for the sugar industry against anybody using HFCS (High Fructose Corn Syrup) and other sweeteners,” Manuel Lamata, United Sugar Producers' Federation of the Philippines president, said yesterday.

“The sugar industry will not forget this,” he said.

The BacoLaod iat Festival organizers yesterday said they support Leonardia and the local government of Bacolod “for the protection and promotion of the sugar industry”.

“Personally, I am for the sugar industry. So I go along the line of its protection and promotion because, first, it is the industry that actually started to build Bacolod,” Leonardia said earlier.

Sugar industry leaders have spearheaded a ban of Coke products for their use of HFCS instead of the locally-produced cane sugar.*CPG
