A suspect in the killing of a minor on Thursday in Sitio Lantawan, Brgy. Patag, Silay City, Negros Occidental, was arrested yesterday by the police, a day after the murder incident.
Donald Monnsay, 28, of the place, was apprehended by the Silay police, assisted by Army soldiers, at about 2:30 a.m. yesterday in Brgy. Patag, Silay City.
Supt. Noel Polines, Silay City police officer-in-charrge, said yesterday that Monsay was positively identified by a witness, as being behind the fatal shooting of Christian Pinson, a Grade 7 student.
Initial investigations of the Silay police showed that Pinson, 17, and his two siblings, were on their way to school in Sitio Lantawan of the barangay, when they were waylaid by the two armed suspects.
After asking them some questions, Polines said Pinson, a resident of Sitio Tigbao in Brgy. Katilingban, Talisay City, was shot in the stomach and head by the two suspects, without any reason at all
The victim was declared dead on arrival at a hospital in Silay City, the police said.
Polines said their initial investigations showed that the victim was reportedly an eyewitness in the murder also of a minor in 2015 in the same barangay.
Upon checking with records of the Silay police Womens and Children Protection Desk, Polines said they have no records that Pinson executed a sworn affidavit, in connection with the killing of a minor almost three years ago.
Monsay, Polines said, vehemently denied any involvement in the killing of Pinson. But he added that the suspect was positively identified by one of the younger siblings of the victim, as the Silay police also recovered the hat and jacket allegedly worn by the arrested suspect during the commission of the crime.
Polines said Monsay was subjected to a paraffin test yesterday at the PNP Crime Laboratory, and they are now preparing the filing of murder charges in court against him and his at-large companion.* GPB
