Super Twins Cobra Citrus drubbed Mexicali Cobra Berry, 105-87, while Brew Kettle-MSW Bleachers routed Blitz Villamonte-Heineken, 83-66, in the 1st phase of the knockout quarterfinals of the Fil-Sino Asia Brewery Cup at the Tay Tung High School Covered Court in Bacolod City Saturday night.
Mexicali and Blitz Villamonte are now eliminated from the tournament,while MSW Bleachers and Super Twins will play No. 2 teams FyrFyter/Dobinsons Colt45 and Silver Graces Construction/Supreme- Beer na Beer, respectively, in the second phase.
Mexicali had a promising start as they went ahead 27-19 in the opening quarter behind the combined output of Joemel Garrido, Gifter Gigje and Ryan Agena while MJ Magbanua had 10 points for Mexicali.
But Super Twins, behind Allan Mallari, slowly crawled back at the half to cut the deficit, to 45-43
It was a different story in the second half as Super Twins registered 62 points while limiting Mexicali to 42 points with Magbanua scoring 18 points and Gerald Bacellote added 8 markers.
Magbanua topscored for Super Twins with 33 points as Joemarie Bayhon added 16, Mallari produced 14, Arnold Musnishot 11 and Bacellote and Baylon with 8 points apiece.
Garrido paced Mexicali with 27 points, Gigje added 25, Ryan Agena shot 15, Madrigal and Gregorio delivered 6 points apiece.
In the nightcap, Sean Wee drilled 6 triples for 20 points to lead MSW Bleachers as Mark De La Cruz added 18, JR Salga with 12 points and Ritchie Militante, 9 points.
Blitz Villamonte held a slim 16-15 opening quarter advantage behind a 7-point production from Coleen Testa.
Wee knocked down four of the 6 triples recorded by MSW Bleachers in the second quarter to grab the lead at the break, 37-30.
Both teams delivered the same output in the third canto, before MSW Bleachers pulled away in the fourth quarter behind Mark De La Cruz’s 10 points and two triples by Wee.
Testa led Blitz Villamonte with 22 points while Botsoy Solinap added, Katsi Cadagat made 9 and Donald Quilantang shot 7 points.*
