Ignite, Top Ace score contrasting wins

Team Ignite opened their bid with a dominating 90-80 victory over Team Karmex in the curtain raiser of the 2nd ABC- Leads Agri Cup at the Ayala Northpoint Clubhouse Monday night.

After a deadlock at halftime, Team Ignite blew the game wide open outscoring their counterparts 26-13 behind the trio of Emil Agana, Titing Cañete, and Reygin Oquiana. They would eventually cruise in the last 12 minutes for their first win and stamp their class as the favorites to win the conference championship.

Arjay Jamero and Tommy Andren paced Ignite with 16 points each, Cañete and Agana had 15 and 11 points, respectively, to finish in double figures. Scott Ledesma and Oquiana chipped in 8 points each.

Brian Coo’s 29-point output wasn’t enough to give Karmex the victory as Jeremy Coo and Karl Torres backed him up with 10 points each. Bren Tajonera scored 8 while Angelo Lizares and Miguel Mosquera added 6 apiece.

In the second game, Top Ace earned a hard fought victory over Leadforce with a score of 96-90 to notch its first win.

It was a back and forth battle in the final period and the physicality of the game was more evident as it was approaching the halfway mark.

Top Ace kept its composure while hanging on to a 3-point lead as Phillip Abong converted a 3-point play to put his team up by 6 with 16 seconds remaining. Leadforce failed to score in their last possession as Top Ace escaped with the victory.

Popoy Jamero and Robby Jalandoon both led Top Ace with 16 points, Jay R Salga finished with 12, Abong and Willy Dasal scored 11 apiece while Dario Barba had 10. The father and son tandem of Joshua and Richard Co combined for 14 points in the win.
