A drug group leader evaded arrest by throwing two hand grenades at policemen serving a warrant of arrest for drug charges against himin Purok Paraiso, Sitio Sibucao, Barangay Banago in Bacolod City, at about 6 a.m. Saturday.
Members of the PDEA-6, Criminal Investigation and Detection Group-Bacolod, and Bacolod City Drug Enforcement Unit, armed with an arrest warrant for violations of sections 11 or the possession of drugs and 12 of its paraphernalia, under Republic Act 9165 or the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002, swooped down on the house of Ramy Poja in Sitio Sibucao.
Poja, a leader of the Poja Drug Group and ranked as a high-value target, escaped, by throwing thehand grenades at the arresting team. Luckily the grenades did not explode, a Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency-6 report, said.
The PDEA, meanwhile, arrested two members of the Poja Drug Group identified as Roberto Rodriguez, alias “Togle”, and Steve Liboon, its report said.
Rodriguez reportedly sustained burns when he poured gasoline on his body and lit it. He was brought to a Bacolod hospital.
The operation, meanwhile, yielded four heat-sealed transparent plastic sachets of suspected shabu weighing about five grams with an estimated street-value of P25,000, several drugs paraphernalia, two hand grenades, a .22 caliber revolver with five live ammunition, an M-16 magazine with 18 live ammunition, a magazine for a 9mm pistol with five live ammunition, and six live ammunition for 12-gauge shotgun, police records show.
Charges for violations of R.A. 9165 and R.A. 10591 or the Comprehensive Firearms and Ammunition Regulations Act are being readied against the suspects.*SGG
