People Power protests set

Various groups are set to mark the1986 People Power Revolution with protests and gatherings in Bacolod City this weekend.

The 1986 People Power Revolution from February 22–25 led to the ouster of then president Ferdinand Marcos.

The Movement Against Tyranny Negros Island has lined up a series of activities today dubbed “People Power Against Tyranny and Dictatorship.”

Participants will assemble at the Rizal Elementary School park at noon today and march to the Lopues San Sebastian area at 1:30 p.m. where they will discuss the workers and peasants situation and proceed to the central market rotunda at 2 p.m. to discuss their opposition to the Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) law, organizers said.

At 2:30 p.m. they will proceed to the San Sebastian Cathedral where the Roman Catholic Church stand on Charter Change will be tackled, the Negros Press Club at 3 p.m. where media repression will be raised, and the Fountain of Justice at 3:30 p.m. for the culmination of the activity, they added.

The Federation of Urban Poor will mark the EDSA People Power with a prayer rally at the Ninoy Aquino Monument at Araneta Street near the old Bacolod airport 6 to 8 a.m. tomorrow, Joy Jarabelo also said.

TindigPilipinas, Bacolod Chapter, a broad national coalition of organizations, will mark the People Power Revolution at the main entrance of the Provincial Capitol Lagoon in Bacolod City at 4 p.m. tomorrow where a candle lighting ceremony and the release of yellow balloons will be held, BernaldoEres, convenorsaid
