NFSW condemns massacre

The National Federation of Sugar Workers issued a statement yesterday strongly condemning what it called a “massacre” of sugar workers said to be members of Task Force Mapalad recently in Brgy. Napacao, Siaton, Negros Oriental.

Four farmers, including three women died, when they were shot by five suspects, who were later arrested by the police in the place.

This carnage further added to the spate of killing of poor farmers and hacienda workers in Negros Island under the Duterte government, the NFSW statement said.

The NFSW reported that it already suffered 21 victims of extra-judicial killings since January this year, the latest victim of which was Ronald Manlanat, who was murdered Wednesday in Brgy. General Luna, Sagay City.

Initial investigations by the Sagay police showed that Manlanat was killed by a fellow agrarian reform beneficiary, and that it was triggered by land conflict.* GPB
