Comelec preparations on
despite postponement bid
BY CARLA GOMEZ

Negros Occidental Provincial Elections Officer Jessie Suarez said yesterday they are going ahead with the preparations for the barangay Sangguniang Kabataan elections in May, despite a move in the House of Representatives for another postponement.

Surigao del Sur Rep. Johnny Pimentel has filed House Bill No. 7072 seeking to postpone the elections until October 2018.

"Given the coordination costs and expenses of organizing the elections, it is suggested to give the Commission on Elections and other involved agencies additional time to further ensure credible and effective barangay elections," Pimentel said.

Oriental Mindoro Rep. Reynaldo Umali also said he filed a bill for a postponement until May 2019.

The ball is in their court, Suarez said.

The Comelec is prepared for the May polls and is proceeding with its mandated function, unless ordered to do otherwise, he said.*CPG
