Guanzon: Comelec joins
One Billion Rising' drive

On Valentine's Day, 6,000 Commission on Elections personnel nationwide, including Bacolod City, joined One Billion Rising against rape and sexual violence of women, Comelec Commissioner Rowena Guanzon said yesterday.

Guanzon, who is from Negros Occidental, said all field and central office personneldanced Break the Chain to rise, resist, unite against rape and sexual violence.

This is going to be a yearly February 14 event for Comelec gender and development, Guanzon said.

In Comelec, we have a policy against sexual harassment and other forms of sexual violence, she said.

Recently the Commission En Banc dismissed an assistant regional director for grave misconduct, Guanzon said.

I rendered a separate opinion that his grave misconduct - exchanging sexual favor for a promotion, was inexcusable and must be meted with the penalty of dismissal with the inherent additional penalty of forfeiture of retirement benefits, she said.*CPG
