Ivan Bandal, a Silliman alumnus who is an associate solicitor of the Office of the Solicitor General, was the guest speaker at the 60th Annual Honors Day Convocation of Silliman University at the Claire Isabel McGill Luce Auditorium in Dumaguete City, a press release said.
He told this year's honor students that excellence is being able to become the best of what one could be. It doesn't, however, mean aiming for perfection as doing so would most likely result in constant disappointment”.
He added, “The pursuit of excellence is also about enjoying what you do and having commitment and passion to pursue whatever you want to achieve.”
Twenty seniors were awarded University Honors for being in the upper three percent of their class in several colleges in the four semesters during which they were considered for junior and senior honors.
Also awarded the College Honors for being part of the upper three percent of the sophomore, junior, and senior classes whose Quality Point Average is 3.5 and above, were 146 students, the press release said.
In addition, those in the upper ten percent of each class in several colleges whose QPA is not below 3.25, were awarded Class Honors, and 11 freshmen, 15 sophomores, 161 juniors, and 139 seniors were also given the award.
Bandal reminded the students to “Dream big, set goals, aim high to make a difference in this world, take risks, and do not be afraid to fail”, the press release added.*
