The Bureau of Jail Management and Penology in Bajumpandan, Dumaguete City, is celebrating the 58th founding anniversary of the Batang City Jail 32, with a series of activities.
Jail warden Prycel Arevalo said the activities are aimed to boost the
CJmorale of persons deprived of liberty, and to develop their talents.
B32, with about 270 PDLs, praised the warden for his policies and said they will support all his programs. What they only ask for from the warden and the dorm guards is mutual respect for them as human beings.
BCJ32 commander Arvin Duhaylungsod thanked Arevalo for giving them a ray of hope while waiting for their cases to be finished.
Duhaylungsod also assured the BJMP leadership that peace will prevail inside the facility.
There are about 577 residents in the male dorm of the BJMP in Bajumpandan with about 30 insular prisoners waiting for transfer to the National Bilibid Prisons in Muntinlupa.
Arevalo said that even if detained, the PDLs are able to find their hidden talents and make a livelihood out of them.
Addressing them as PDLs and as dorm residents will fast-track the concept of rehabilitation even if their main mandate is to secure them inside the BJMP, he said.
Due to typhoon Basyang, the search for Mr Kupido is rescheduled today, Arevalo said.
Aside from the art exhibit, visits of family members are extended up to 6 p.m.*
