Adopted son of Bacolod, award-winning singer-composer Jose Mari Chan, led the Bacolaodiat Grand Parade, from the Bacolod Public Plaza to the South Capitol Road, at the opening yesterday of the four-day event in celebration of the Chinese New Year.

Joining the parade were Bacolaodiat Festival chairman Jennifer Ong and past festival chairmen, city officials, and participants of the lantern dance competition.

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia and councilors Bartolome Orola, Em Ang, and Cindy Rojas, together with the Bacolaodiat Festival organizers, also opened the Chopsticks Alley and Bacolaodiat Imperial Village at the South Capitol Road.

A cultural show followed at 6 p.m. that showcased the talents of different Chinese schools in Bacolod City.*
