Ex-Cafgu member killed,
civilian hurt in shooting
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

A former member of the Civilian Armed Forces Geographical Unit died, while a civilian was injured in separate shooting incidents Thursday in Brgys. Laga-an and Marcelo, both in Calatrava, Negros Occidental.

Ex- CAFGU member Raul Ugdiman, 27, was declared dead on arrival at the Calatrava District Hospital, the police said yesterday. He succumbed to a gunshot wound in the back.

Investigation of the Calatrava police showed that the victim, who was travelling from Brgy.Bug-ang, Toboso, and was bound for Brgy. Dolis, Calatrava, collided with two other motorcycles, both running in the opposite direction.

The incident was initially reported as a mere traffic accident. But it was found out later that the victim had a gunshot wound in the back,  that was blamed for his death.

Capt. Raul Llanes, 303 rd  Infantry Brigade Civil Military Operations officer, yesterday clarified that the victim was no longer active as a CAFGU member, and also ruled out that the shooting incident was insurgency-related.

A certain Roberto Bargayo also sustained a gunshot wound in the back, after he was shot by an unidentified gunman Thursday night in Brgy. Marcelo, Calatrava, Negros Occidental.

The victim was having dinner inside his residence, when he was shot, the police said.

He is now confined at the Our Lady of Mercy Hospital in Bacolod City, after being given initial treatment at the Alfredo Marañon Sr. Memorial Hospital in Brgy. Bato, Sagay City.*
