P.3M in drugs seized

About P360,000 in drugs was seized in Bacolod and Negros Occidental Thursday and yesterday.

The police said P260,000 worth of suspected shabu was seized from four persons, including a member of the Berya Drug Group in two buy-bust operations in barangays 2 and Vista Alegre, Bacolod City.

Members of the City Drug Enforcement Unit nabbed a high value target (HVT) and her companion for allegedly engaging in an illegal drugs transaction at AbadaEscay in Barangay Vista Alegre, at about 4 p.m. yesterday. . moremoremore

Teachers air 4 poll demands

The Bacolod City Public School Teachers Federation directors, in a resolution released yesterday,reaffirmed their stand that their members will not serve in the May 14 barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections unless their demands are met by the Commission on Elections.

Bacolod Election Officer Mavil Majarucon Sia earlier said that Bacolod needs 2,538 teachers to serve as members of the Electoral Boards and Barangay Boards of Canvassers, but so far, only 50 percent of that number have signed up for poll duty.

Negros, Siquijor bizmen warned
vs. using TRAIN for profiteering

Eduardo Pagulayan Jr., regional director of the Bureau of Internal Revenue for Negros and Siquijor, warned businessmen not to take advantage of the implementation of Tax Reform for Acceleration and Inclusion (TRAIN) law for profiteering as they might be charged for doing it.

Pagulayan said that the implementation of TRAIN on its first month had been “rough” as some businessmen took the opportunity to increase the prices of various commodities without any reason.

“The implementation started Jan. 1 and some businessmen still have inventory of their stocks before TRAIN. Those products should not be affected by the increase in price,” he said in an interview Thursday during the TRAIN briefing at the BIR Annex Office in Bacolod City. ..
