P1.7B set for
city infra, DPWH says
BY CHRYSEE SAMILLANO

The Department of Public Works and Highways will implement P1.7 billion worth of projects in Bacolod City this year, Bacolod District Engineer Abraham Villareal said yesterday.

Villareal said included in the P1.7 billion is the budget for the implementation of the Bacolod Economic Highway amounting to P200 million and the P55 million drainage improvement program from Rizal-Lacson streets to the Mandalagan bridge.

Bacolod Rep. Greg Gasataya said he is thankful for the many projects given to Bacolod City for implementation this year in the whole city.

The P1.7 billion budget has been the result of follow-ups he made with the different government agencies, he said.

This will be a very busy year for the DPWH in Bacolod in terms of projects, he added.

Gasataya said he has requested the DPWH to ensure proper coordination with the city government so the projects will not cause traffic problems like in the past.

He is asking for the understanding of the public for the inconveniences that may be experienced during the implementation of the project in the coming months, he said.

They have received an additional budget of P200 million aside from the initial P400 million for the implementation of the Bacolod Economic Highway, Gasataya said.

He recalled that the national government had implemented P1.2 billion worth of projects in Bacolod last year, excluding the flyover.*CGS
