The Bacolod City Police Office is leading the war against illegal drugs in Western Visayas, in terms of arrested drug personalities, with the Negros Occidental Police Provincial Office closely trailing behind.
After the resumption of the illegal drug campaign by the Philippine National Police, Supt. Gilbert Gorero, Regional Public Information Officer of the Western Visayas police, reported that they have accounted for 297 drug personalities, with 126 arrested by the BCPO.
NOCPPO accounted for 93 drug suspects, Iloilo City Police Office -37, Iloilo Police Provincial Office – 15, Antique Police Provincial Office – 11, Capiz PPO – 10, Aklan PPO- 4 and one for Guimaras PPO, which covered the period from December 5 last year to Feb. 5 this year.
Gorero also reported that the Oplan Tokhang revival campaign led to the surrender of 187 individuals, with 66 in Bacolod City, 62 in Negros Occidental, 44 in Antique, eight in Capiz, two each in Guimaras and Iloilo provinces, and one in Iloilo City.
The biggest accomplishment in terms of shabu seizure was recorded at the Dumangas port in Iloilo, where the police, the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency and the Philippine Coast Guard seized almost a kilo of shabu, estimated to have a market value of P18 million, from a Silay couple on Jan. 28, and the confiscation of 593.5 grams of suspected shabu, and P24,960 in cash from a certain Christian Unabia in San Carlos City, also on Jan. 23, the police said. * GPB
