Fifty members of the Coca-Cola sales department in Bacolod are among the hundreds of employees of the beverage firm nationwide set to be laid off, their union president said yesterday.
Cyrus Javellana, president of the Coca-Cola Bacolod Sales Force Union, said the affected employees have been informed of their lay offs.
About 800 Coke employees may be affected by the lay offs nationwide, he added.
Coca-Cola FEMSA did not confirm the number of personnel to be laid off but in a statement sent to the DAILY STAR said: “ This restructuring has been a very difficult decision. It was carried out only after anexhaustive and conscientious assessment of the evolving regulatory environment, our operational efficiency, and consequent performance in the market.”
In the light of recent developments within the beverage industry and in the business landscape as a whole, the Coca-Cola system is undergoing an organizational structure assessment, it said.
This involved a comprehensive review of the roles and responsibilities within Coca-Cola FEMSA, it added.
Coca-Cola FEMSA assured that it will treat the people who will be affected with dignity, fairness, and respect.
“Everyone will be given career transition support, as well as separation packages that go beyond what is mandated by law,” it said.
“We are grateful for the valuable contributions of those who were affected and thankthem for being part of the company,” Coca-Cola FEMSA said.*CPG
