Comelec faces shortage
of teachers for May polls 6 head

The Commission on Elections in Bacolod is faced with a shortage of public school teachers willing to serve in the synchronized Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan Elections on May 14.

Bacolod Election Officer Mavil Majarucon-Sia said Bacolod needs 2,538 teachers to serve as members of the Electoral Board and Barangay Boards of Canvassers.

However, so far only about 50 percent of the 2,538 posts have been filled with the deadline to constitute the boards set on February 12, Majarucon-Sia said. moremoremore

‘Coca-Cola to lay off 50'

Fifty members of the Coca-Cola sales department in Bacolod are among the hundreds of employees of the beverage firm nationwide set to be laid off, their union president said yesterday.

Cyrus Javellana, president of the Coca-Cola Bacolod Sales Force Union, said the affected employees have been informed of their lay offs.

About 800 Coke employees may be affected by the lay offs nationwide, he added. .moremoremore

P2.4M in rice pest damage
in 2 NegOcc LGUs – OPA

The Rice Grain Bug, an emerging rice pest in Negros Occidental, continues to infest more areas as the Office of the Provincial Agriculturist recorded another P2.4 million worth of damage in two local government units in the southern part of the province.

Pontevedra town and Himamaylan City incurred rice crop damage estimated at P2,445,536  due to the RGB infestation in January, records from OPA given to the media yesterday showed.

Provincial Agriculturist Japhet Masculino said, apart from these two LGUs, OPA is also waiting for reports from the sixth district, in Candoni and Hinobaan towns, as infestations have also been reported in the areas....
