Cops get medals for
P18M drug bust
BY GILBERT BAYORAN

Ten police personnel of Western Visayas, led by Senior Supt. Rodolfo Castil, provincial police director of Negros Occidental, have been conferred the Medalya ng Kagalingan for the recovery of P18 million worth of shabu from a couple from Silay on Jan. 28 at the port of Dumangas, Iloilo.

Aside from Castil, the medal recipients include Senior Supt. Marlon Tayaba, Iloilo Provincial Police director, Supt. Jonel Guadalope, Chief Inspectors Jonathan Pinuela, Rogelio Pacificar, Rodelon Betita and Rene Obregon Jr., Senior Inspector Mario Formento, SPO3 Joel Valdez and PO3 Jose Digcabo-on Jr.

The awarding was held yesterday at the Police Regional Office 6 at Camp Martin Delgado in Iloilo City, in line with the 27th PNP Foundation Day, with Regional director Anthony Nuyda, of the Department of Interior and Local Government, as guest of honor and speaker.

Silay resident Jose Alberto Pinaga and his live-in partner, Maebelle Belmonte, are now facing charges for violation of RA 9165, or the Comprehensive Drug Act of 2002.

The arrest of Pinaga and Belmonte that yielded almost a kilo of shabu, also led to the apprehension of Corazon Vergel, alias Neneng, in Hacienda Minulu-an in Brgy. Matab-ang, Talisay City, Negros Occidental.

The arrest of Vergel during a buy-bust operation yielded about 20 grams of suspected shabu, estimated to have a market value of P180,000, and P500 in marked money.

Supt. Noel Polines, Silay City police chief, said Pinaga is next in line, or the “right hand”, of Michael Divinagracia, a high value drug personality in Silay City, who is among the distributors of shabu in Bacolod City.

Divinagracia, who recently posted bail of P500,000, for drug-related charges, utilizes Pinaga in getting shabu from Luzon, Polines said.

Polines also said the group of Divinagracia has a tie-up with the Aki Cuadra Group in Bacolod City, that is involved in robbery-hold-ups and in selling drugs.

Initial investigations of the Silay police showed that the group of Divinagracia is among the suppliers of drugs in Bacolod City, aside from Silay City.

Also awarded with the Medalya ng Kasanayan yesterday were Supt. Lindley Barrientos, Chief Inspector Danny Lamera, SPOs4 Enrique Langub, Mirafe Pungot, SPO3 Isagani Tabares, SPO2 Gary Diaz, PO3 Treza Basbaño, PO2 Christian Valery Lava and Nelson Cajilig Jr, a non-uniformed personnel.* GPB
