Mayor Evelio Leonardia encouraged Sunday the 250 visiting Filipino-Canadians and their 20 organizers to consider Bacolod should they decide to invest in the Philippines someday.
“We know that after having stayed in Canada for some time, many of you, if not all, may want to invest someday, and you may have friends who might come to the Philippines to invest someday,” Leonardia said.
“How we wish that when that happens, you will consider Bacolod City,” the mayor added.
Leonardia welcomed the Filipino-Canadians and party at a welcome dinner dubbed “MassKara Night,” that the city government hosted for the visitors at the Bacolod City Government Center on their first day in Negros Sunday evening, a press release from the mayor's office said.
The mayor thanked them for choosing Bacolod has been awarded as one of the only two cities outside Manila to visit this year.
Leonardia was joined by First Lady Elsa Leonardia, Councilors EmAng, Ana Marie Palermo, BartolomeOrola and Sonya Verdeflor, City Administrator John Orola, Executive Assistant RodelParcon, and City Tourism Officer Ma. Elma Gerasmo.
Leonardia emphasized that Bacolod City have been awarded as one of the most competitive and most business-friendly cities in the country.
The Filipino-Canadians, led by Philippine Ambassador Petronila Garcia, are on a group tour, dubbed “Winter Escapade 5: It's More Fun in the Philippines,” from February 3 to 11 in Manila, Davao and Bacolod, the press release said.
The group is visiting tourist destinations in Bacolod, Talisay, Silay, Victorias, Cadiz, and Murcia until today.
Garcia thanked the Bacolod city government, especially Leonardia, for the warm welcome.
“”It is truly a treat to be here and to be given this kind of reception by the people of Bacolod City,” she said.
