STI-WNU takes lead vs.
Tay Tung in NBTC-Bacolod best-of-3 finals

STI-West Negros University Junior Mustangs prevailed over Bacolod Tay Tung High School Thunderbolts, 95-87, in Game 1 of the SM-National Basketball Training Center (NBTC) League played at the STI-WNU Gym Sunday.

Game 2 is scheduled tomorrow at Tay Tung's Po Hang Gym.

The Thunderbolts was up, 70-65, going into the fourth quarter but the Junior Mustangs, anchored by Aldave Dale Canoy and Philip John Majometaño, exploded with an 8-0 run to wrestle the lead, 73-70. with less than two minutes left in the game clock.

Mark Bandojo added seven points during the Junior Mustangs' rally to help seal the win, despite a 14-point fourth quarter output from Ryan Cruz of the Thunderbolts.

A pair of triples from John Paul Malayas gave the Junior Mustangs a 10-5 lead in the early goings while Canoy made his presence field with six points for a 19-17 first quarter advantage.

Tay Tung bounced back in the second canto with Matt James hitting six points while Cruz and Fritz Felix Valencia added a couple of baskets for a 44-41 halftime lead.

The Thunderbolts remained in command in the third quarter with Barrera and Cruz scoring eight points each, while Dave Agbas and Canoy kept STI-WNU within striking distance with a combined15 points.

Canoy topscored for the Junior Mustangs with 32 points while Bandojo tallied 15 and Agbas finished with 14 points.

Cruz led Tay Tung with 28 points, Barrera added 21 and Harold Alarcon contributed 9 points.*
