BY GILBERT BAYORAN

A 33-year-old man, who ran amuck, was shot and injured, after he attacked and stabbed two police officers yesterday at Hacienda Fe, in Brgy. Batuan, La Carlota City, Negros Occidental.

SPO4 Jerry Rumbines and PO2 Erwin Antonio, were among those responding to an incident of alarm and scandal, where the suspect, identified as Rudy Silabai of Mabinay, Negros Oriental, was involved, the La Carlota police said.

Silabai, who was threatening to kill anybody and to stab himself, attacked and stabbed PO2 Antonio in the stomach.

Fortunately, only the police uniform of PO2 Antonio was only grazed by the knife, the police said.

Silabai, who was reported to be mentally-ill, turned his attention to SPO4 Rumbines, who fell on the ground, after being attacked, and stabbed him.

Rumbines, who was not hit, was left no choice, but to shoot Silabai to paralyze him and hit him in the left thigh, the police added.

Silabai was immediately brought to the Don Salvador Benedicto District Hospital in La Carlota City, for treatment of his injury.*GPB
