Jr. NBA goes to Talisay

The Talisay City government, in partnership with the Jr. NBA organization will train more than 500 young basketball players of the city this weekend at the Talisay City Gym.

Organized by the renowned basketball association, this is the second time that Talisay City will host the training for players ages 8 to 16 years old this year.

Other cities that will host the same activity will be cities of Silay and Bacolod.

Talisay's Council vice Committee Chair on Youth and Sports RolinMeliton said yesterday that this is part of the grassroots development program of the city-- to train potential Talisaynon athletes.

“There are so many good players that we should discover and train,” Meliton said, adding “This is a grassroots development program to train potential players that could bring pride to Talisay.”

He said that the trainers will be coaches from NBA and in the province.

The 2-day event that will end tomorrow will involve kids from all public schools of the city.

Before the Jr. NBA, Ryan Goodson, an NBA skills trainer and the director of Stephen Curry Skills Academy, trained young Talisaynons last November.

Goodson is also motivational speaker and has brought basketball clinics across the globe including Belgium, Russia, Greece, Puerto Rico, Switzerland, Canada, and recently, in the Philippines * MLG
