2 fathers get life terms

Two men were sentenced to life imprisonment yesterday for the sale of illegal drugs.

Executive Judge Raymond Joseph Javier ofthe Bacolod Regional Trial Court Branch 52 found Rodel Baja Villanueva and Danilo Florentino Santos, alias Kid, guilty beyond reasonable doubt for the sale of shabu, in violation of Section 5, Article II, of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act.

He meted Villanueva and Santos, who are both fathers, life terms and ordered them to pay fines of P500,000 each.

The jobless security guard who killed a visual artist and injured her house helper in Purok 6, Barangay Granada in Bacolod City, Wednesday, could have finished off other members of her family had they not locked themselves up inside their room when they saw him enter the house.

Chief Insp. Sherlock Gabana, Police Station 4 commander, said they have filed murder and frustrated murder charges yesterday against Sandy Sevilla, 27, of Barangay Buenavista, Escalante City in Negros Occidental, before the Bacolod City Prosecutor's Office.

No bail has been recommended for the murder charges filed against Sevilla,Gabana said. .moremoremore

Firm backs modernized marine transport services

A ferry company has pledged compliance with international standards for accommodating cargos and passengers in Bacolod and Iloilo, and is advocating for modernized marine transport services.

The Archipelago Philippine Ferries Corp., the owner of FastCat, is the first inter-island marine vessel with hybrid characteristics of a fast craft and Roll-On Roll-Off (Roro) and has plied Bacolod-Iloilo route for three years now.
