A resolution requesting Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia to convene the special committee for the Manokan Country Inasal Festival in the City of Bacolod was approved by the Sangguniang Panlungsod Wednesday.
The resolution, authored by Councilor Bartolome Orola Sr., said the Manokan Country of Bacolod has become one of the city's major tourism centers that offers real Ilonggo-tasting chicken inasal.
It said Section 3 of City Ordinance No. 482, series of 2009, or the “Manokan Country Inasal Festival in Bacolod City”, provides that a special committee must be created by the city mayor through an executive order.
The resolution said the city mayor will serve as honorary chairman of the committee while the co-chairmen will be the chairpersons of the SP committees on Tourism and Public Markets.
Members of the special committee are the head of the Tourism Department, City Administrator or designated representative, and representatives of the City Engineer's Office, City Planning and Development Office, Bacolod City Police Office chief, or designated representative, two orthree representatives from the private sector, one from the business sector, and the president of the Manokan Country, it said.
The resolution said Section 4 of C.O. 482 provides that the special committee will convene at least twice every January to plan and establish the needed mechanism, including the actual date of the festival which should not exceed five days.
The committee will also decide as a body during a meeting on the motif of the festival, and basic conceptualization that will be reflective of the culture and identity of the Ilonggos, it said.
The continuation of the Manokan Country Inasal Festival will further enhance the reputation of Bacolod as the famous place of the iconic and original Bacolod chicken inasal, that is well-known locally and internationally, it added.*CGS
