The jobless security guard who killed a visual artist and injured her house helper in Purok 6, Barangay Granada in Bacolod City, Wednesday, could have finished off other members of her family had they not locked themselves up inside their room when they saw him enter the house.
Chief Insp. Sherlock Gabana, Police Station 4 commander, said they have filed murder and frustrated murder charges yesterday against Sandy Sevilla, 27, of Barangay Buenavista, Escalante City in Negros Occidental, before the Bacolod City Prosecutor's Office.
No bail has been recommended for the murder charges filed against Sevilla,Gabana said.
Sevilla stabbed and killed Nunistell Mae Fulo-Lee, 41, and injured her house helper Mary Grace Mupada, 33, of Pontevedra town in Negros Occidental.
Lee, a former member of the Philippine Bayanihan Dance Company and former vice president of the Art Association of Bacolod-Negros, succumbed to 13 stab wounds on her body, Gabana said.
He said Lee was rushed to The Doctors' Hospital but died later while Mupada is now recuperating at the Corazon LocsinMontelibano Memorial Regional Hospital.
Joe Roehl Fulo, Lee's older brother, said the helper was preparing breakfast in the kitchen when she heard the victim shouting inside the comfort room whereSevilla was hiding.
He said when the helper went to see what had happened, she was stabbed by the suspect twice, but he left her alone when she played dead. She later ran out of the house to ask for help when the suspect entered the house, but collapsed when she came near a church.
Fulo said his sister ran inside the house and sat on a sofa after she was stabbed many times bySevilla. The suspect also attempted to go after the victim's mother and sister but they hurriedly locked the door of the room with his sister's 7-year-old daughter inside.
Investigation showed that Sevilla attempted to rob the house of Lee.
Gabana said Lee, who was surprised, shouted soSevilla, who also panicked, stabbed the former with a knife he got from the dirty kitchen of the house,
Sevilla, who escaped, was later arrested by the police at the house of his live-in partner in Hacienda Carmen in Barangay Granada.
Sevilla told the police that he stabbed Lee and Mupada out of panic. He claimed he needed money to bring his child, who frequently got sick, to the hospital.
The police, meanwhile, could not consider Sevilla as a hardened criminal since he even passed by the residents when he escaped, Gabana said.
Sevilla is still locked up at the Station 5 detention cell.
Fulo said they have tentatively scheduled his sister's burial on Wednesday at the Rolling Hills Memorial Park since her husband, Shane Lee, a former member of the US Navy, is expected to arrive from Florida.
A mass will be held for his sister at Hope 1 of the new chapel of Rolling Hills at about 6:30 p.m. today, he said.
Lee is survived by her 7-year-old daughter, Elaiza Jane, mother Stella, and siblings, Nunilonlll, Joe, and Marianne Rose Fulo-Dalanon.*CGS/SGG
