Negros Occidental has close to P.5 billion in disaster response funds, with P160 million from its 2018 budget and savings of P325 million from the past five years.
This was disclosed yesterday by Ma. LinaSanogal, provincial planning and development coordinator, who said the Provincial Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (PDRRMC) has prioritized preparedness and quick response measures versus flooding and a possible eruption of Kanlaon Volcano in the 2018 budget.

The jobless security guard who killed a visual artist and injured her house helper in Purok 6, Barangay Granada in Bacolod City, Wednesday, could have finished off other members of her family had they not locked themselves up inside their room when they saw him enter the house.
Chief Insp. Sherlock Gabana, Police Station 4 commander, said they have filed murder and frustrated murder charges yesterday against Sandy Sevilla, 27, of Barangay Buenavista, Escalante City in Negros Occidental, before the Bacolod City Prosecutor's Office.
OBO to inspect call centers
The Office of the Building Official will inspect Panasiatic Solutions, Teleperformance, and Transcom, and those that pass the inspection will be issued an annual inspection certificate, its head, Isidro Sun Jr., said yesterday.
He said OBO conducts an annual inspection of call centers in Bacolod City, except those that are under the Philippine Economic Zone Authority.
