Lawyer, companion
injured in ambush

A Bacolod lawyer and her companion were ambushed at Hacienda Nilo, Barangay Matab-ang,Talisay City, Negros Occidental, at about 10:46 last night.

Injured were Erfe del Castillo, 44, and her companion Efren Palmares, who were rushed to the Dr. Pablo O. Torre Memorial Hospital in Bacolod City.

A source said del Castillo had just arrived from Manila and had been picked up from the Bacolod-Silay Airport by Palmares. They were driving along the Bacolod-Silay Airport Access Road headed for Bacolod, when the silver Porsche they were riding in was fired at by unidentified gunmen in Barangay Matab-ang. moremoremore

Two Negros bishops stressed yesterday the need to celebrate and live out the true meaning of Christmas amid a world gripped by fear and uncertainty, and an elusive peace in Negros.

“In these uncertain times, it is all the more imperative for true disciples of the Lord to give a clear witness with our lives, words and works to the faith that does justice", San Carlos Bishop Gerardo Alminaza said.

Exec calls for tourism
sustainability support

The support of the private sectors in Negros Occidental in implementing tourism sustainability and inclusivity in its operations and delivery of services, as the province continues to promote food and farm tourism as a new tourism product, is being sought by Provincial Supervising Tourism Operations Officer Cristine Mansinares.

Mansinares said yesterday that as tourism should be inclusive, the support of the private sector is needed.

She said that to promote inclusivity, tourism associations of tour guides, tour guides, hotel and restaurant and travel agency operators, and the Provincial Tourism Council should help provide services to visitors.
