There will be no yuletide truce with the New People’s Army in Negros island, a ranking military official said yesterday.

“It’s business as usual for us,” Col. Benedict Arevalo, who is the Army’s 303rd Infantry Brigade commander, stressed.

Sugar tax fight not over: Migz

The fight against the move to tax sugar is not yet over.

Senate majority floor leader Juan Miguel Zubiri revealed the plans of the Department of Finance to impose taxes on sugar per kilo, adding that it will help in the killing of the sugar industry.

Western Visayas posts 94.7%
employment rate in 4th quarter

The employment rate in Western Visayas in the fourth quarter of this year is 94.7 percent, which is 0.4 percent higher than the previous quarter, records from the Philippine Statistics Authority showed.

Records released at the PSA website last week, said that in October, the employment rate in Region 6 was at 94.7 percent, with 5.3 percent unemployment rate and 12.7 percent underemployment rate.

Employment in the third quarter was 94.3 percent and 94.6 percent in the second quarter, while unemployment was at 5.4 percent in April, and 4.9 percent in January.
