Cops eye all angles
in brgy chief’s slay
BY SHIELA G. GELERA

All angles in the death of Barangay 16 captain Nelson Ligaya Jr. in Bacolod are now being looked into by the police, Senior Supt. Francisco Ebreo, Bacolod City Police Office acting city director, said yesterday.

Ebreo said they are focusing their investigation on the slugs and empty shells recovered from the crime scene.

They have also acquired closed-circuit television camera footages, capturing the suspects going to and from the area but their faces were covered with bonnets and helmets, he said.

However, Ebreo said the police respect the family members of Ligaya and understand their feelings, so they are not obliging them to give their statements immediately.

Ligaya, 48, was gunned down by motorcycle-riding suspects in Purok Paloma, Barangay 16, Bacolod, at about 9:30 p.m. Saturday.

Aside from debt, the probers are also looking into the angle that someone might have gotten angry with Ligaya since he had personally conducted a citizen’s arrest to a person carrying illegal drugs in the barangay, earlier this year, Ebreo said.

They are also looking into the case filed against Ligaya by one of the barangay officials, he added.*
