Neg. Occ. dengue deaths 26

The dengue death toll in Negros Occidental has hit 23 this year, with Cadiz City having the highest number at seven, aProvincial Health Office surveillance report released yesterday said.

In Bacolod City there were also three dengue deaths and 464 cases as of July 28, Dr. Grace Tan of the City Health Office, said yesterday.

Meanwhile, the other dengue deaths in Negros Occidental were in San Enrique ‒ 3, Sipalay City ‒ 3, Kabankalan City ‒ 2, La Carlota City ‒ 2, and one each in Pulupandan, Valladolid, EB Magalona, La Castellana, Hinigaran, and Bago City.

The 23 deaths from January 1 to July 28 are 5 higher than the 18 recorded in the province in the same period last year, the report said.

There were also 2,846 dengue cases reported this year in Negros Occidental, a 54 percent increase, or 998 cases more from 1,848 cases in 2017.

The cases this year were in La Carlota City ‒ 313, Kabankalan City ‒ 250, Sipalay City ‒ 241, Bago City ‒ 204, Cadiz City ‒ 158, Himamaylan City ‒ 153, Hinigaran ‒ 146, Victorias City ‒ 116, Silay City ‒ 107, Sagay City ‒ 103, Ilog ‒ 96, San Enrique ‒ 95, La Castellana ‒ 90;

Hinoba-an ‒ 76, Escalante City ‒ 70, EB Magalona ‒ 68, Talisay City ‒ 66, Pontevedra ‒ 64, Cauayan ‒ 63, San Carlos City ‒ 61, Binalbagan ‒ 51, Manapla ‒ 42, Pulupandan ‒ 37, Valladolid ‒ 37, Murcia ‒ 34, Isabela ‒ 34, Calatrava ‒ 21, Toboso ‒ 21, Moises Padilla ‒ 12 Candoni ‒ 9, and S. Benedicto ‒ 8.

In Bacolod City the dengue deaths were down by half with 3 this year compared to 6 last year, Tan said.

The 464 dengue cases this year are also lower than last year’s 776, she added.*CPG
