Alonso: Water clears
in Pontevedra river
BY CARLA P. GOMEZ

Mayor Jose Benito Alonso said the water in the Mangala River passing through Pontevedra town in Negros Occidental that turned black on Sunday had cleared up yesterday .

He said the heavy flow of water brought on by the rains enabled the black substance to be washed away quickly.

The mayor had blamed an overflow from the Central Azucarera de la Carlota Inc. (CACI) dam for the “waste water spill”.

Sonny Coscolluela, CACI vice president and general manager, claimed the mill dam could not have released waste water because they ended milling in May and all it contained was rain water.

Alonso said he wants CACI to put an end to the numerous spills from its dam.*CPG
