Udyakan sa Kabankalan

The drum beats filled the air and performers in splendid and colorful costumes danced to the rhythm as the City of Kabankalan celebrates its annual Udyakan Festival.

The revelers did not let the monsoon rains dampen the spirit of the festival, as everyone trooped to the huge Kabankalan Catholic College gymnasium for the highlights of the dance competition.

Under the leadership of hardworking mayor, Isidro Zayco, the Udyakan Festival features local folk dances with origins in southern Negros. The original dance masterpieces came alive in the gymnasium, witnessed by thousands of revelers that day. Udyakan Festival was the brainchild of Vice Mayor Raul Rivera and Enigardo Legislador of the Kabankalan City Cultural and Tourism Foundation.

Southland College was declared the 2018 Udyakan Festival grand champion, as well as Best in Choreography and Best in Performance, from among the 10 contingents. In second place was the Tapi National High School, Kabankalan Catholic College, third, Tabugon National High School – fourth and Florentino Galang Sr. National High School in fifth place.

Other highlights of the celebration were the agro-industrial booth and trade fair participated in by 32 barangays. The year’s booth competition winner was Brgy. Biniquil, first place - Tapi, second - Brgy Carol-an, third place - Brgy. Tampalon, and fourth place – Brgy Camingawan.*
