Mower came back strong in the third quarter to live another day, outlasting topseed Leadforce, 101-88, in the semi-final round of the ABC-Leads Agri Cup Thursday at the at the Ayala Northpoint Clubhouse in Talisay City.
Despite building a 9-point lead in the first half, Leadforce could not sustain its momentum as Yanyan Dy teamed up with Andy Tio to account for 24 of their 31-point third quarter output to turn things around.
Dy continued to sizzle in the final 12 minutes as Mower forced a do-or-die match on Monday for the right to face Karmex Gold in the championship round.
Dy dropped 23 points to lead Mower, Richard Arroyo had 17, Andrew Dadivas and Taboy Corriente added 14 apiece while Andy Tio scored all of his 11 points in the third period.
Leadforce, which has a twice to beat advantage, was led by Rixie Ureta with 15 markers, Jhapeth Cua and Paolo Avecilla chipped in 13 points each, Renren Lacson and Martin Jalandoni had 11 and 10 points, respectively, while Edward Castellano finished with 8 points.
Karmex Gold booked the first championship seat after drubbing Top Ace, 82-66, in the second game.
Deadlocked at 51-all, Karmex used a 10-0 run at the start of the fourth to take an early 10-point lead. From then on, Top Ace wasn’t able to recover as the younger Karmex team used their speed to pull away for good.
Brian Coo topscored for Karmex with 23 points as Miguel Mosquera finished in double digits with 12 while Bren Tajonera and Carl Ginete put together 17 points.
Jay R Salga paced Top Ace with 15 as robby Jalandoon, Popoy Jamero, Ralph Ong, Efraim Valencia and Dicken Valdez combined for 32 points.*
