Gun permits suspended
during election period
BY GILBERT P. BAYORAN

The carrying of firearms, even those covered by a Permit To Carry Firearms Outside Residence (PTCFOR), will be suspended during the election period, which is expected to start April 14, in line with the synchronized barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan elections, next month, Senior Supt, William Señoron said yesterday.

Señoron, who is the Operations chief of the PNP Civil Security Group, also said that police bodyguards will also be recalled by the Police Security Protection Group.

The election period starts Saturday and ends May 21, and the gun ban will be in effect during this period.

All requests for gun ban exemptions by private security agencies and bodyguards will be coursed through the Commission on Election, Señoron said.

But he said the CSG will continue to process gun licenses.

The PNP Civil Security Group supervises licensing and registration of firearms and explosives and business operation and activities of all organized private detectives, security guard agencies and company guard forces.

Only police and military personnel in proper uniforms are allowed to carry firearms.

The Regional Joint Security Control Center of Western Visayas was activated Wednesday at Camp Martin Delgado in Iloilo City, to ensure secure and fair barangay and SK elections, regional police spokesperson Chief Inspector Joem Magalong said.

The coordinating conference was also attended by Brig Gen. Francisco Delfin, Assistant Division Commander of 3rd Infantry Division, Chief Supt. Cesar Hawthorne Binag, regional police director and Atty Dennis Ausan, regional COMELEC chairman, as well as Interior and Local Government Assistant Secretary Manuel Felix.

Magalong said the Joint SOP on Security Deployment for Barangay and SK Elections 2018 was also signed, as well as the activation of the PRO6 Regional Election Monitoring Action Center (REMAC), aimed at monitoring and synchronization of all activities of the different tasked units under PRO6 IMPLAN to Secure and Fair Election (SAFE) 2018.*GPB
