Ceres dominates Boeung Ket FC, 4-0,
to earn semi-final spot in Asean Zonals

Ceres-Negros FC delivered another masterful performance as they conquered Boeung Ket FC anew, 4-0, during the Matchday 5 in Group F of the AFC Cup 2018 at the National Olympic Stadium in Phnom Penh last night.

The win assured Ceres a spot in the ASEAN Zonal semi-finals as they remained on top of Group F with 13 points, three points clear of Singapore’s Home United which they will face on April 25 at home in Panaad Stadium.

Breaking through the defense of the home team, the visiting Busmen from Bacolod City rode on a Bienvenido Marañon hat trick and a blazing strike from Takumi Uesato.

But despite having the control of the match, it took Ceres 36 minutes to register their first goal with Marañon sending the ball in from a sweet spot inside the area.

The Spanish striker scored his brace a couple of minutes later after getting a pass from OJ Porteria for a 2-0 lead for Ceres at the end of the first half.

Another brilliant assist from Porteria to Marañon allowed the Spaniard a rare hat trick in 69 th minute as he beat Boeung Ket goalkeeper Sou Yaty for Ceres’ third goal.

Earning a rest after 72 minutes of doing a good job inside the field, Porteria was subbed by Takumi Uesato, who joined Marañon in the list of Ceres’ scorers for the night with a goal in 84 th minute.

The loss kept Boeung Ket at the bottom of Group F while Home United trails Ceres at No. 2 after a 3-2 win against Shan United of Myanmar last night.

Statistics from last night’s match between Ceres and Boeung Ket showed the Busmen taking 21 shots, 7 of them on target while the home team had 5 shots with 1 on target.

Ceres made 695 passes and had a 79.8 percent possession while Boeung Ket managed 175 passes with 20.2 percent possession.

Meanwhile, Global FC of Cebu bowed of the AFC Cup this season despite salvaging a 3-3 draw against Thanh Hoa of Vietnam at the Rizal Memorial Stadium in Manila last night.

Global finished their AFC Cup campaign this season at the bottom of Group G with five points off a win at home against Yangon United and another draw against Bali United.*NAB
