About 99 teams from the different barangays in Bacolod City are expected to compete in the 2 nd Congressman Greg Gasataya Basketball League that will open on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the STI West Negros University gym.
Fifty two teams will be competing in the open category while 47 teams have qualified for the 17 and under category.
Bacolod Councilor Dindo Ramos, tournament director, yesterday said the participants will be provided free uniforms, while each team will get P5,000 in cash assistance.
They require each team to have a maximum of 15 players who should be residents of Bacolod City. Winners will receive cash prizes, he said.
Ramos recalled that last year a total cash prize of P100,000 was given to the winners. The team that won first place received P50,000; the second got 30,000 and third got P20,000.
Israel Salanga, tournament commissioner, said they are asking the participants to attend the opening ceremony on Saturday. They expect more exciting prizes this year.
He said the public will be provided free access to the basketball tournament, while participating teams have no registration fee.
Ramos said they hope the tournament will be finished before the end of May.*CGS
