Dad alarmed at shooting

A member of the Sangguniang Panlungsod of Dumaguete City has expressed alarm over the shooting to death of a fellow legislator in Guihulngan City on April 2, and what was done to Paul Edison Dela Rita in broad daylight, can also happen to any sanggunian member in the province.

Councilor Alan Gel Cordova, chairman of the SP Peace and Order Committee, said he thinks that sanggunian members should be outraged by what had happened to Dela Rita.

Cordova said whatever the reason or motive, the Guihulngan legislator did not deserve to die that way.

He said he believes sanggunians all over the province should come up with an official expression of sentiment on Dela Rita’s death.

The Dumaguete SP was supposed to issue an official statement during the regular session on Wednesday, but it was overtaken by discussions on other issues, although Cordova brought the matter during the privilege hour as a temporary presiding officer. He said the SP will definitely issue an official statement during their regular session this week.

Meanwhile, Gov. Roel Degamo has condemned in strongest terms the murder of Dela Rita. He directed the police to leave no stone unturned to identify his assassins even if reports claim that the Leonardo Panaligan Command of the communist New People’s Army has already denied any involvement in the killing.*JG
