EMB set to inspect
more Negros resorts
BY CARLA P. GOMEZ

The Environmental Management Bureau in Negros Occidental is inspecting and closely monitoring Negros Occidental resorts for compliance with environmental standards.

The close watch is on amid President Rodrigo Duterte’s order for the six-month closure of Boracay Island, a world famous tourists destination which he described as a cesspool, starting April 26 to ensure a full scale environmental clean-up.

Negros Occidental Provincial Environment Officer Edgardo  Rostata said yesterday the EMB is tasked with ensuring the resorts’ compliance with water, air and land environmental standards, including waste disposal.

The EMB has received queries from local resort owners wanting to ensure compliance in the light of the close watch to prevent what happened in Boracay in Negros.

An EBM source said so far 50 percent of the resorts in Sipalay City in southern Negros Occidental were found compliant but more resorts in the city and in southern Negros are up for renewed inspections.

In northern Negros , Cadiz Mayor Patrick Escalante said a monitoring team is keeping watch on environmental compliance on Lakawon Island.*CPG
