Couple, driver meted life
BY CARLA P. GOMEZ

A live-in couple and a driver were sentenced to life imprisonment in Bacolod City yesterday for the sale of illegal drugs.

Executive Judge Raymond Joseph Javier of Bacolod Regional Trial Court Branch 52 sentenced Richell Buhat Antonio and her partner George Raymundo Flores to life imprisonment for the sale of shabu in violation of Section 5, Article II of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act of 2002.

They were charged for the sale of .021 gram of shabu for P200 to a police poseur buyer at their house in Purok Greenshell, Magsungay, Barangay Singcang-Airport, Bacolod City on March 9, 2013.

The couple was also ordered to pay a fine of P500,000 each.

The judge ordered Antonio’s immediate transfer to the Correctional Institution for Women in Mandaluyong City, and Flores to the National Bilibid Prison in Muntinlupa City.

Upon their arrest, four plastic sachets of shabu were recovered from the house of Flores with a total weight of .162 gram.

Flores was found guilty beyond reasonable doubt for possession of dangerous drugs and sentenced to an additional 12 years and eight months imprisonment as minimum to 17 years and eight months as maximum, and to pay a fine of P300,000.

Antonio and Flores denied the charges against them.

But the judge said, “The defense of accused is anchored principally on denial which cannot be given credence. It does not have more evidentiary weight than the positive assertions of the prosecution witnesses.”

Antonio, 41, cried on hearing that she and her live-in partner were meted life imprisonment, and said they would file an appeal.

RTC Branch 47 Judge Therese Blanche Bolunia yesterday also sentenced driver Nery Sindol, 39, to life imprisonment and to pay a fine of P500,000for the sale of drugs, 12 to 15 years for possession of drugs and a fine of P300,000, and 6 months to 3 years for possession of drug paraphernalia.*CPG
