Mayor Marvin Malacon announced yesterday that P1 million has been allocated to help address the concerns of overseas workers from EB Magalona and their families.
The municipal government has organized families of overseas workers in the barangays of EB Magalona, Negros Occidental, and has also set up an OFW desk, Malacon said.
Carolina Constantino, the officer-in-charge of the regional office of the Department of Foreign Affairs in Western Visayas, yesterday led the mass oath-taking of members of OFW associations in EB Magalona at the town’s Wilkinson Social Court.
Malacon said he is now working on a one-stop-shop for overseas workers in securing documents needed for employment abroad, in close coordination with the DFA and other concerned government agencies.
This is on top of his “fly now, pay later program”, which he said he envisions to help workers in EB Magalona, who are applying for work abroad, but are short on cash.
Through this OFW program, Malacon said he also hopes to establish an easy access for overseas workers and their families, when emergencies that need immediate action of the government come up.*GPB
