Divorce bill opposed
BY CARLA P. GOMEZ

More than 100 Catholics gathered at the Our Lady of Candles Parish in Barangay Villamonte, Bacolod City, last night to air their opposition to the divorce bill.

“The passage of the divorce bill in the Lower House brings to mind the painful rejection of Jesus Christ, which led to his crucifixion. But we are confident that God will always triumph over evil. We believe that most Filipinos will uphold their marriage,” Felix Pasquin, Our Lady of Candles parish priest, said.

The anti-divorce activity included a Gospel reading, a silent reflection, a talk on the Catholic Bishops Conferences of the Philippines position by Rose Tan, executive director of the Diocesan Commission on Family and Life, a candlelight procession ending at the grotto of Our Lady of Candles, and culminating with a blessing by Pasquin.

The participants carried placards with messages that said: “I hate divorce says the Lord God of Israel – Mathew 2:16”, “No to Divorce”, “What God has put together, no human being must separate - Mathew 19:6”, “Everyone who divorces his wife and marries another commits adultery – Luke 16:18”, and “Each divorce is the death of a small civilization”.

The activity was held to backup Bacolod Bishop Patricio Buzon’s statement that the approval of the divorce bill in the Lower House was a "shameful act", Pasquin said.*CPG
