Maltreated OFW
returns from Saudi
BY SHIELA G. GELERA

After almost a week in Manila, the Negrense household service worker, who was allegedly locked in a stockroom and maltreated by her female employer in Saudi Arabia arrived in Negros Occidental, Saturday.

A tight hug from her mother, Anita, welcomed Edrelyn Cauntoy, when the alighted from a boat at the Bacolod Real Estate Development Corp. port.

Both were emotional upon seeing each other.

The 27-year-old Cauntoy said she is relieved to finally get home to Barangay Poblacion in Bago City, Negros Occidental.

Cauntoy, who arrived in Manila from Saudi Arabia on March 23, stayed in Manila while she was looking for money for her fare home to Negros.

She was allegedly locked in a stockroom by her female employer in Jeddah, Saudi Arabiaon March 13 and was given only noodles for food.

All her belongings were also confiscated by her female employer, Cauntoy said.

The husband of her employer helped Cauntoy on March 21 to fly to Dammam, also in Saudi Arabia, where she stayed while waiting for her plane ticket to return to the Philippines.

Cauntoy said she was so weak and could not initially digest food when she arrived in Damman after being starved for several days.

She added that all her savings were used to buy the plane ticket from Saudi Arabia to the Philippines.

Cauntoy started working for her female employer in July 2016 and her contract was supposed to expire in July. Her reason for working abroad was to earn money for the construction of their house in Bago.*SGG
