Rehab center to rise in Alijis

A 50-bed capacity Treatment Rehabilitation Center will be established in Barangay Alijis, Bacolod City, for drug surrenderers.

Elizabeth Caumban, of the City Anti-Drug Abuse Council Secretariat, said this will be the first Treatment Rehabilitation Center to be established in Bacolod Citythatwill be patterned on the TRC of Pototan, Iloilo.

The Department of Health has allocated P50 million for the establishment of the rehabilitation center in Bacolod City, she said.

Caumban said they have already submitted the building plan and proposal to Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia.

The TRC will be established in the 3-hectare property of the city in Brgy. Alijis where the City Agriculture Office and demo farm is located, she said.

It will cater to severely affected drug surrenderers, who are residents of Bacolod City, Caumban said.

They have referred three patients to the TRC Pototan since Bacolod has no rehabilitation center right now, she added.

Earlier, Caumban said the Community-Based Drug Rehabilitation Program of Bacolod City for the second batch of drug surrenderers started last February and will run until July.

She said the city has allocated P1.5 million from its special appropriation fund for the second batch of drug surrenderers and they have a total target of 200 drug surrenderers.

Caumban said their first batch of 105 drug surrenderers, have graduated.*CGS
