Mower nips Top Ace
in ABC-Leads AgriCup

Richard Arroyo made the go-ahead basket with 2.4 seconds remaining as Mower escaped with a thrilling 94-92 victory over Top Ace, Monday last week in the ABC-Leads Agri Cup at the Ayala Northpoint Clubhouse in Talisay City.

It was a close game all throughout but Mower managed to pull away in the final period after Andrei Dadivas hit back-to- back triples. Robby Jalandoon immediately responded for Top Ace in the last five minutes to keep the game close once again.

After Jay R Salga split his charities to tie the game at 92-all with 7.5 seconds remaining, Mower immediately called a timeout. Andrei Dadivas got the inbound pass and drove to the basket, attracting three defenders and while he missed the shot, Top Ace forgot to box out Arroyo who was trailing from the weak side, as he made the offensive putback to give Mower a two-point lead.

Top Ace was not able to convert their final possession as Mower clinched a semi- final slot.

Dadivas paced Mower (4-3) with 26 points while Arroyo supported him with 23 markers. Andy Tio and Derick Sibug scored 11 and 10 points, respectively, as Taboy Corriente, Danny Yusay and Froilan Fuentes combined for 18 points.

Salga led Top Ace (4-4) with 23 points, Willy Dasal had 20 while Robby Jalandoon finished with 16 points. Popoy Jamero and Junvel Juayong added 7 points each.

In the second game, Leadforce held on to the top spot winning their third straight game in the second round with an 85-78 victory over Karmex.

The win assured Leadforce (5-2) a twice to beat advantage heading into the semi-finals.*
