Thousands affected in Neg. Occ.

Thousands of Negrenses were affected by floods Friday and those who evacuated returned to their homes the next day when the waters subsided, Melvin Fierro Sr. of the Provincial Disaster Management Program Division said yesterday.

In Negros Occidental floods hit Pontevedra, San Enrique, Binalbagan and Valladolid towns, and La Carlota, Bago, Sipalay, Talisay and Silay cities, he said.

In Valladolid floods affected 1,776 households in barangays Guintorilan, Ayungon, Pacol, Paloma, Palaka, Mabini, Central Tabao, Bagumbayan, Tabao Proper, Sagua Banua and Dodol, a report submitted to the PDMPD said.

The report also said 200 hectares of crops in eight barangays were also affected.

In Pontevedra1,262 persons were affected by the floods, but only 229 evacuated, and one house was destroyed and one was damaged, the PDMPD reported.

Barangays affected were San Isidro, San Juan, Salvador Benedicto, MH delPilar, Canroma, Cambarus and Recreo.

In San Enrique 17 households in Barangay Sibucao and 16 households from Barangay Guinturilan were rescued and brought to evacuation centers.

Floods also hit barangays Bagroy, San Teodoro and Marina in Binalbagan.

In Sipalay City 166 individuals evacuated from Barangay Cartagena, while a landslide hit Barangay 4.

In La Carlota floods hit Barangay Batuan, while in Talisay flooding was reported in barangays Zone 4, Zone 8, Zone 10, Zone 12 and Zone 15.

Also affected by flooding were some areas in barangays 2, Mambulac and Rizal in Silay City, the PDMPD report said.*CPG
