Shrock rocket goal
lifts Ceres past Global

Stephan Schrock fired a rocket shot from 25-yards in the 78 th minute to carry Ceres-Negros FC past Global-Cebu FC, 1-0, in the Philippines Football League at the Pana-ad Park and Football stadium yesterday.

The win gave the Busmen another three points as they remained at No. 4 in the team standings with 32 points or two points behind No. 3 Global, with still six remaining games to play.

Cheered on by an estimated 2,000 crowd at the Pana-ad Stadium, Ceres held Global to a scoreless first half as both squads struggled with their finishing touches.

“The crowd is a big bonus for us as they heat up the Pana-ad whenever the team plays,” Schrock said after the game.

Schrock, who kicked the lone score for Ceres, also said the Negrense crowd made a significant role in the match, saying that they are the ‘big bonus' for the team as they always heat up the Panaad whenever the team plays in front of them.

Global's offense suffered a setback in the first 20 minutes after team captainr Misagh Bahadoran dislocated his shoulder and was replaced by Paolo Bugas.

“The team became quite unsettled after Misagh was injured,” Global head coach Mohd Akbar said during the post-match conference with the media.

Despite the early setback , Global managed to engage the Busmen to a high-level game until the 78 th minute blast from Shrock that sealed the win for the home team.

“It was spectacular goal,” Ceres head coach Risto Vidakovic said even as he found match as another test to the Busmen's endurance as they only had three days of rest after the away game against Davao Aguilas which ended in a 1-1 draw.

Earlier, Mohd told the media that he considers the match against Ceres as a classic game between the top two Visayan teams. Both Ceres and Global represented the country to the AFC Cup this season with the Busmen capturing the inaugural ASEAN Zone championship.

Mohd said their target is to remain in the top four of the PFL team standings to advance to the semi-finals. They will also look into Bahadoran's condition in order to make the necessary adjustments in their future games, Mohd said.*MLG
