for SRA administrator

Will the new administrator of the Sugar Regulatory Administration come from Negros Occidental?

    Sugar leaders yesterday said they were saddened by the resignation of SRA Administrator Anna Rosario Paner  and were not ruling out the possibility  that Emilio “Dino” Yulo III, Sugar Alliance of the Philippines spokesman and former Negros Occidental vice governor, will be appointed to replace her.

They also said President Rodrigo Dutertemay name the new SRA chief  by Monday. moremoremore

Bishops condemn increasing EJKs

The four Roman Catholic Church dioceses in Negros Island  yesterday issued a joint pastoral letter condemning  the  “unabated and appallingly increasing incidents of extra judicial killings” in the country.

     San Carlos  Bishop Gerardo Alminaza said  the pastoral letter, issued on the “Nativity of Our Lady”, will be  read in all parishes throughout Negros Island starting yesterday, this weekend and next weekend.

The statement  was signed  by  Alminaza, Bacolod Bishop Patricio Buzon,Dumaguete Bishop Julito Cortes and Fr. Rolando Nueva – administrator of the Diocese of Kabankalan.moremoremore

Two killed in shooting

Negros Oriental police personnel are investigating two shooting incidents in Dumaguete City and Sibulan town yesterday and Thursday.

    Adam Gantalao Corciega, 38, of C. Vidal Street in South Poblacion, Jimalalud in Negros Oriental, was shot dead at about 2:30 p.m. yesterday in Dumaguete. He sustained gunshot wounds on the different parts of his body and the head, which resulted in his instantaneous death.

    Dumaguete deputy chief of police, Senior Inspector Van Joel Tingson, said the victim was on board a black Suzuki Raider motorcycle when he was shot from behind, with a .45 caliber pistol.
