Wage, fare hikes eyed
with rising fuel prices

Labor groups are mulling the filing of a petition for another wage increase, while a transport group is also calling for a fare hike with the continuing rise in fuel prices, the latest of which wasyesterday.

The Sentrong Samahan ng Tsuper at Operators ng Negros is calling for a fare hike, while the United Negros Drivers and Operators Center is staging a massive strike.

Diego Malacad, UNDOC secretary general, who just returned from a transport group summit in Manila, said they are not asking for a fare hike but are staging a strike against the rising prices of fuel after informing local government units and schools in Negros. moremoremore

13 teachers, driver injured

Thirteen teachers and their driver were injured when their jeep and a dump truck figured in an accident at the Bacolod-Silay Airport Access Road in Barangay Bagtic, Silay City, 7:10 a.m. yesterday, Mayor Mark Golez said.

Except for one teacher with a deep wound on the head and was brought to the Our Lady of Mercy Specialty Hospital in Bacolod City, the rest of those injured were treated as outpatients at the Teresita Lopez Jalandoni Provincial Hospital in Silay City, Golez said.

A police report said a dumptruck driven by Nazareno Padernal , 34, of Barangay Makiling, Sagay, hit the back of the service jeepney of the teachers of the Guimbala-on National High School in Silay City causing it to fall on its left side. moremoremore
