‘Bacolod will surely soar'

Bacolod Mayor Evelio Leonardia yesterday reiterated his appeal to all public officials to set aside their political agenda and personal ambitions in the meantime and work for the people first. 

“Let us work for our personal ambitions only when election time comes,” he said in his 13 th State of the City Address during the special session of the Bacolod SangguniangPanlungsod yesterday.

“We must position Bacolod to be among the premier cities in the country, as well as in South East Asia. We must be ready for the eventual integration of the ASEAN because our horizons will widen and the playing field will be bigger and more challenging,” Leonardia said. moremoremore

SP approves new
real property tax

The Bacolod Sangguniang Panlungsod approved on third and final reading Thursday an “Ordinance Updating the Schedule of Market Value of Real Properties in the City of Bacolod” with only Councilor Ricardo Tan manifesting an abstention.

Councilor Dindo Ramos said yesterday this will result in an additional P200 million for the city. The new ratesor schedule of market value will take effect after the mayor signs the ordinance and after this has been published.

The increase in collection for 2018 will improve the delivery of basic services, he said. moremoremore

SEC official warns
versus online scams

The Securities and Exchange Commission has cautioned the public against investment offers through social media platforms as these may be the handiwork of online scammers.

SEC Commissioner Emilio Aquino issued the warning as scammers “are now using the internet” to dupe people, especially those who engaged in start-up businesses by offering attractive investment opportunities.

“Online scam is our biggest problem. Because of advances in technology, they (scammers) have ready access to the market,” Aquino said in a briefing with reporters..
